At a workshop with Rodrick Owen in September 2005, I was introduced to the
world of takadai 4 thru rep braids. These braids have great potential for pattern and
texture design. During the workshop, students were producing complex 80 bobbin braids
which require both upper and lower rails of the takadai. I decided to explore some more
simple braids using only 40 bobbins and just the upper rail of the takadai. I have
produced designs for the 6 braids shown on the left. My write up of these braids can be

This ply-split scarf is made using alpaca wool, which has been converted
into 2 ply ply-split cords with a relatively low twist (to retain a soft handle to the
scarf). I wrote up the design and used it for the 2005 Braid Society sample swap. To

This is a simple finger woven braid which I learned about at a recent
Braid Society See and Share day. I have produced some instructions to allow the braid to
be quickly and easily made on the karakumidai. To obtain a copy of the instructions,
